Job function and title: Sales Representative

Department:   Sales

Supervised by:  Divisional or Regional Sales Manager

Location:   Baltimore, MD, Washington, DC, Central PA, or Richmond, VA

Direct Supervision of: None

Job Summary: Perform outside sales to businesses in assigned territory or assigned industry category.  Make "cold calls" to potential customers, present entire product line, negotiate prices and sell company products.

DESCRIPTION MAY NOT BE ALL-INCLUSIVE AND EMPLOYEES ARE EXPECTED TO PERFORM ALL OTHER DUTIES AS ASSIGNED AND DIRECTED BY MANAGEMENT. JOB DESCRIPTIONS AND DUTIES MAY BE MODIFIED WHENEVER DEEMED APPROPRIATE BY MANAGEMENT.

Job Responsibilities/Duties:

Make regular sales calls on current customer accounts in businesses such as Hospitals, Educational Institutions, Catering companies, Sports Venues, Hotels, and Restaurants.

Ensure that a specified period of time each week is allocated to contact and make "cold calls" to potential customers and are included in the weekly sales reports.

Make every effort to satisfy all product needs of the customer; present upgraded product lines, whenever possible, to enhance customer satisfaction level.

Introduce new products and sell breadth of company's line to all customers to meet defined profit targets.

Develop a consultative relationship with the client to be a resource for their strategic needs.

Provide product quotes to customers as needed.

Attend sales meetings, product shows, industry expositions and other business events as assigned or authorized by Sales and Marketing Manager

Maintain professionalism, diplomacy, and tact to portray the company in a positive manner.
Perform any other duties defined by management.

Skills/ Experience

  • Associates Degree, Bachelor's Degree preferred.
  • At least 4 years of successful sales experience.
  • Effective time management, organization, and multi-tasking skills.
  • Very strong communication skills:  Must be able to demonstrate sourcing, presenting, negotiating, and closing skills in front of individuals or groups. 
  • Must be able to work well under pressure
  • Proficient in the utilization of computers and competently operate numerous type of software programs required in the function of the position, including Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.

Language Skills

Ability to read and interpret documents in English such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, contract documents, and procedure manuals and convey this information to other employees and prospective customers.  Ability to read and comprehend instructions and memos.  Ability to write instructions and memos. 

Reasoning Ability

Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.  Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of variables in situations where only limited standardization exists, using independent judgment and discretion.  Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.   Must be able to understand budgets, customer volume estimates and schedules.
