Acme Paper and Supply History
Acme Paper & Supply Co., Inc. is among the nation's largest suppliers of disposable food service packaging, janitorial equipment and supply, restaurant equipment and supply, retail and industrial packaging, and custom-designed packaging. Our history began in 1946, when Edward and Mildred Attman founded Acme Paper & Supply Company in a 1500 square feet rented garage in Baltimore, MD. Today, three generations of the Attman family continue the tradition, with a warehouse/headquarters complex in the Baltimore-Washington Industrial Park in Savage, Md., and a regional distribution center in Richmond, Va., with a combined space of 3.5 million cubic feet.
Acme Paper's abundant history has sustained the company for over 65 years and will continue to prosper in future generations. Our growth has come from utilizing our expertise in various product categories to branch out into six closely-related divisions that enable us to organize, develop and strengthen our services to bring added value to our clients. With a staff of experienced managers and sales representatives in each of these divisions, a close working relationship with our suppliers and a delivery system that utilizes our own vehicles from vans to trucks to tractor trailers, Acme is able to quickly supply clients of all sizes -- from convenience stores to hospitals to stadiums - with thousands of products from hundreds of manufacturers. Among these manufacturers are such major companies as Procter & Gamble, Diversey, Solo Cup, SCA, Georgia Pacific, Ecolab, and Rubbermaid.
In 1990 Acme Paper became a member of Network Services, the largest association of wholesale distributors in North America, whose member companies, located strategically throughout the United States, have combined purchases totaling $7 billion. Membership in this organization has further enhanced our ability to service regional and national accounts, while greatly adding to Acme's purchasing strength in behalf of our clients. Network Associates named Acme winner of its Operational Excellence Award, a bench marking program in which Network members compete for excellence in operational performance.
Acme Paper is also very involved in product development and in generating ideas for our customers to provide innovative solutions for product, service and cleaning problems. In fact, a number of products created by Acme Paper's Alpha Products division are so unique they carry patents and registered trademarks. Several of these patented products are now being enjoyed by fans at major league baseball, football and basketball games.
In response to this innovation and our attention to quick, reliable, cost-efficient customer service, Acme Paper has been attracting a growing roster of clients, enlarging our geographic range of services and undertaking numerous expansion moves that position the company for continued dynamic growth in the coming years.
This is why we say Acme...much more than paper.
